A Prayer for Wisdom in Parenting My Children

February 17, 2016 by Tracey 3 Comments

Dear God,

Thank You for the precious children in our home. They are a gift from You.  You placed them in our family so that we could learn to love and serve each other.  They are not only our daughters, but, thankfully, our sisters in Christ.

It seems as each day passes that I recognize my need for wisdom more and more.  My heart’s desire is to train these girls to love and serve You, to see evidenced in their lives the fruit of the Spirit that will bring glory to You and blessing to others.

I read in your Word that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.  Let reverence for You rule my life that I might have the wisdom I need.

Be my counselor as I make decisions that affect their lives.  Unfold for me the principles You lay out in the Bible, and give me understanding as I apply them to our everyday situations.

Thank You for your promise in James 1:5 that if I ask for wisdom, You will give it abundantly, without scolding me.  Remind me to seek You before I make a decision or respond to a request.

Many times in Proverbs I’m instructed to seek for wisdom, to search for it as a hidden treasure.  Give me the fortitude to continually be looking for your wisdom and to recognize it when I find it.

Help me not succumb to worldly wisdom or go along with what others are doing just because it’s the popular choice, but to recognize clearly the wisdom that comes from You.  James also describes your wisdom as pure, peaceable, gentle, easy to be intreated, and merciful.  Help me to show all of those traits as I use your wisdom to instruct my children.

Thank You that your wisdom is not for sale, for I wouldn’t be able to afford it.  Thank You that You willingly grant it to all who seek it, without partiality.  And thank You for loving me enough to give me your Word to guide me in parenting my children.

All this I pray to my own Heavenly Father, who provides me with all I need to be the mother to these precious children.
