The sand castle our girls built on Saturday |
I finally took some time over the weekend to plan our summer!
My scheduling is a little different this year. I’ve broken our activities down into our daily tasks as well as our more focused studies that will take place three days a week. Those may be different days each week depending on what else we have scheduled. We have six weeks that are relatively empty (meaning no camps, Vacation Bible School, out-of-town trips, etc.)
Daily:
- Bible time. I downloaded this printable 6 Week Children’s Bible Reading Plan for the Gospel of John and we will be following it to read through John this summer.
- Lunch time read-aloud. I hope to read through two books this summer, The Borrowers by Mary Norton and Carry On, Mr. Bowditch by Jean Lee Latham.
- Piano practice, 30 minutes a day.
Three Days a Week:
- Theme study (read library books on that week’s theme, do related projects, etc.)
- Critical Thinking with Dr. Funster’s Word Benders
- Rosetta Stone Spanish Level 1
- Typing Instructor
Here are the themes we’re going to study this summer. It’s rather a miscellaneous collection, but each of the girls can select a topic related to that week’s theme to learn about.
Week One – United States President or First Lady
Week Two – an Occupation
Week Three – Female Author
Week Four – the cities of Atlanta and Boston (these are places we would like to visit in the not-too-distant future, so I’m having the girls compile a list of sites they would like to see)
Week Five – a state in America
Week Six – a king or queen, current or historical
We’re also going to continue with our “cooking lessons” on Tuesdays. I’m getting Emeril Lagasse’s There’s a Chef in My Soup and the Williams Sonoma Kids Cookbook from the library and having the girls’ peruse those to see if they can find some new recipes they want to try.
So that’s what we’re planning for the summer! If you’d like to see what we’ve done in previous summers, you can find the links below. You can also read here to see how I plan our summer.
This sounds like such a fun, but instructive summer! I especially love the weekly topics; when my children are older and can read books themselves, I think this sounds like a great idea!
This sounds like a lot of fun! 🙂 I did summer school with my children this past summer (after we moved into our new house) – we all enjoyed it immensely!
It's been a long time since I commented on your blog – I'm sorry – I do pop over and read your blog when I have the time, even if I don't always comment.
I thought I'd let you know also that I'm in the process of 'reviving' my blog – if you would like to read it, it's still private. Let me know if you would like an invitation if you can't access it from before. x
Yes, yes, please send me an invitation for your blog!!! I'm excited to hear that you're reviving it and will enjoy catching up on all that's going on with you and your family!
Ok 🙂 I sent you an invitation – let me know if you don't get it. In case you need it, here's the address

I'm still working on a family update (it will be up soon, hopefully – when I get it finished), but I did publish a post today. 🙂
