Celebrating Valentine’s Day with Kids

February 13, 2013 by Tracey 7 Comments

For our children’s sake, I decided to embrace Valentine’s Day this year.

Monday we made our Strings of Hearts and hung them from the chandelier in the dining room.

Valentine's day

While we already bought candy valentines for the girls to hand out to their friends, they still wanted to design handmade ones.

I found this cake mix at Dollar Tree so we baked and decorated cupcakes last night.

I plan to surprise the girls tomorrow morning by decorating the dining room table for breakfast.  I bought paper goods and table decorations (once again, at Dollar Tree).

Our one Valentine’s Day tradition is that my husband gives each of our daughters a heart-shaped box of chocolates.  The girls look forward to this special treat!

Tomorrow night the four of us will be eating a Valentine’s meal together at home.  The menu is Cajun Chicken Pasta, Green Beans, Garlic Bread, and Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Cheesecake.  (Yes, we’ll be consuming a lot more sugar than usual this week!)

How do you celebrate Valentine’s Day with your kids?

I completely forgot about Valentine's Day. Lame, I know! The girls have shirts {thanks to Grammie!} and I'm trying to figure out what to do that's easy and inexpensive. We'll see…..

Love the String of Hearts and their homemade Valentine's are just adorable! You know I love decorating and baking for Valentine's Day. Due to my husband's work schedule we won't get to enjoy our family Valentine's dinner until next week. Your meal sounds delicious. Happy Valentine's Day!

You've inspired me to get in gear & celebrate somehow. 🙂 I think I'll make some Israeli couscous or pasta with beets to turn it all vibrant pink! I'm craving rice krispy treats, too, so I'll cut them out with Valentine's cookie cutters! Oooo, thanks for getting me thinking!!!

I usually spend as much time planning my families valentines dinner as I do our Thanksgiving meal.. But this year I am off the mark.. So I am sneaking around looking at yummie menu's such as yours… I was able to make "God's Conversation Hearts" and took them to Church this evening my son gave them out at "patch" my daughter passed them out at "youth group" and I gave some to all the ladies that attended church tonight..I got the idea and pattern off another blog.. You might enjoy it so I will share (no it is not my blog I followed the pattern from pinterest)It's called "Creative Ladies Ministry" I will post the link below. It is pretty simple just little conversation hearts with a tag that has verses to match the saying on the hearts. ( I hope you don't mind). Sunday we made big heart shaped sugar cookies and decorated them. I am still stumped on dinner though…

We usually do heart-shaped cookies for Valentine's Day, too, but ended up doing the cupcakes instead this year. I'll have to check out the conversation hearts post.

Hope you have a great Valentine's Day!
