Family Traditions

September 7, 2010 by Tracey 10 Comments

“In truth a family is what you make it. It is made strong, not by number of heads counted at the dinner table, but by the rituals you help family members create, by the memories you share, by the commitment of time, caring, and love you show to one another, and by the hopes for the future you have as individuals and as a unit.” ~ Marge Kennedy

I love family traditions.

One of our newest ones is spending part of Labor Day weekend at the beach.

It’s a lovely way to end the summer.

From walking down the beach to playing in the sand….

…. collecting seashells to relaxing in the ocean….

…. it’s a time to celebrate the end of one season and the beginning of another….

….as a family.

I am grateful for the time we are able to spend together as a family. Autumn is a good time to begin your own traditions. Whether picking apples or visiting a pumpkin patch, attending a football game or building a bonfire, see if you can find a way to make memories with those you love.

What traditions does your family enjoy this time of year?

I love family traditions as well! And fall is a big time of year for traditions! Apple picking, pumpkin patches, and hayrides top out list!
Stopping by from Gratituesday! Have a great day!

What a lovely tradition! Looks so nice there! We always have a family reunion on Labor Day weekend ~ but this was the first year I've missed in ages because we took a little adventure south because my husband had a job interview last Friday. We'll see how it all turns out! I'm having fun catching up on your posts here… Have a great week!

How fun! Years past our traditions for this time of year have been high school football games, but my youngest brother is now a senior, so that will soon be changing.

Fall is a favorite time of year for us. We love visiting the pumpkin patch. When we lived in KY we'd always go to the Fall Festival at the kids' school. This year we'll be discovering all that there is to do here in Florida in the Fall.

What a good reminder to create family traditions. I have fun memories of family traditions when I was younger. I want to create those memories for my family, but have let it fall by the wayside. Thanks for the encouragement.

One tradition we have is going to The Apple Barn on the mountain. Madison has already asked when we can go. It opens in late September and they sell apples, apple dumplings, apple pies, and the best apple donuts. It's also where we get our pumpkin to decorate for fall.

Love traditions! We haven't much of any until October when we go pumpkin picking and also go through a local church's corn maze. 🙂

We always spend labor Day weekend at my parents home with my extended family. It's a weekend of fun and food and signals the official end of summer.
