5 Books I Read in October

Well, I finished the four books I set out to read last month, but only had time for one extra book!

Here’s what was on my list for October.

Spiritual:  Stepping Heavenward by Elizabeth Prentiss.  It just amazes me that no matter how many times I read this book, it always convicts and encourages me in my Christian walk.  I so identify with the struggles Katy has, especially in dealing with the selfishness that seems to surface on a daily basis.

Marriage:  31 Days to Becoming a Happy Wife by Arlene Pellicane.  This was a relatively short book with daily helps for improving your marriage.

Parenting:  Heartfelt Discipline:  Following God’s Path of Life to the Heart of Your Child by Clay Clarkson.  This book has good principles for helping parents connect with their children.  The author emphasizes the importance of training the heart through developing a close relationship with your child and not just correcting the outward behavior.  He downplays physical discipline and believes that parents rely too much on child-training formulas as opposed to seeking God’s leadership through prayer and spiritual discernment.

Personal Growth:  Trim Healthy Mama:  A Common Sense Guide to Satisfy Your Cravings and Energize Your Life by Serene Allison and Pearl Barrett.  You can read my full review of this book here.

Here’s the other book I read last month.

31 Days to Finding Your Blogging Mojo by Bryan Allain.  This was a good book with practical tips and helps for bloggers.

Here are the books I want to read in November.

Spiritual:  Victorious Christian Living:  Studies in the Book of Joshua by Alan Redpath
Marriage:  His Needs, Her Needs by Willard F. Harley, Jr.
Parenting:  Mama Needs a Do-Over by Lisa Pennington
Personal Growth:  Pioneer Girl:  The Annotated Autobiograhy by Laura Ingalls Wilder.  (I don’t know if this qualifies as a “personal growth” book, but it looks like a wonderful read!)

The books you read sound like good ones! I look forward to seeing what you think about Lisa Pennington's book and the one about Laura Ingalls Wilder, two books I've thought about reading, too.

I've actually started both of those books and I'm enjoying them so far! I'll give a more thorough review later.

I love reading! Just haven't made myself lately. My friend is sending me the lastest book by Jen Hatmaker. Can't wait to dive in!

I also love Stepping Heavenward. I think I might read it this month.
I read Bebe Day by Day by Pamela Druckerman. That is about the extent of my reading for the past two weeks beyond baby board books and read alouds for school! lol!!

Well, there's alot to be said for board books and read alouds!!! One of the things I miss about homeschooling (now that both of my girls are back in school) is the read alouds. We had such fun exploring some of my favorite books – as well as new ones – together. I'm thinking that's definitely something we'll pick back up in the summer.
