Three “I’s” to Instill in Our Daughters

April 16, 2012 by Tracey 2 Comments

Every day that passes brings me closer to parenting young ladies instead of little girls.  As I see their lives unfolding, like the petals of a flower, I realize how much I desire to set them on a path that leads to a God-honoring, character-filled life.

In the coming days, here are three qualities I hope to instill in them.

1.  Initiative.  Rather than sitting back and waiting to be told what to do, I want our daughters to learn how to step forward and take action. May they not just let things happen to them, but embrace life with enthusiasm.

2.  Independence.  Our girls must learn to think for themselves and not be controlled by the opinions of others.  I want them to have the internal fortitude to go against the crowd when necessary, to graciously stand for their beliefs.

3.  Individuality.  I want each of our daughters to follow their own dreams.  I want them to learn to embrace the way God has made them, the interests He has put in their hearts, and find out how to use their strengths in His service.

Often I feel that this season of parenting is passing so quickly.  May God give me the wisdom to not only teach these things to our daughters, but also model them in my own life.
