Saturday Salutes

I tried Crystal’s Baked Oatmeal recipe for the first time this week and it was delicious!  I drizzled mine with maple syrup and poured just a little milk over it.  I’d never had baked oatmeal and it was a little drier than I expected, but had great flavor and texture once I added the milk.

I’m relatively new to the debate over sunscreen risks, but found Mandi’s article on Balancing the Risks of Sunscreen and Skin Cancer quite informative.

Our wonderful July 4th tradition continued this week as we attended a minor league baseball game that included face painting, eating boiled peanuts, and watching fireworks!

Don’t forget to enter my book giveaway.  Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

    Delaney,

Thanks! The same lady works at the ball park every year as a face painter. She does a great job and is very reasonably priced.

What a fantastic job on the face painting! I have to ask – what are boiled peanuts?

    Aurie,

Boiled peanuts are a southern delicacy! 😉

I've never made them – and had never eaten them until I married my husband. You typically buy them from roadside vendors or at local gatherings like the fair, flea market, ball games, etc. Basically they boil raw peanuts in liquid until they're soft and juicy. You usually eat them warm by pulling the shells apart with your fingers or biting them open, and the peanuts inside are soft – almost like a well-cooked bean. Sometimes they add cajun spices or other flavoring to the boiling water, which gives the peanuts a little more "kick."

You definitely should come South and try some! 🙂
