If you’ve been searching for the secret behind the Proverbs 31 woman, it is plainly revealed to us in the thirtieth verse. “Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.”
The Virtuous Woman is Godly.
This woman can accomplish all that she does because of her relationship with God. The traits that she demonstrates outwardly come from her inward spiritual walk. She knows that apart from God, she cannot be pure, diligent, self-controlled or any of the other characteristics that we have seen.
This verse tells us that she “fears” the Lord. She knows Him and therefore has a reverential awe of who He is and recognizes how much she needs Him each and every day of her life.
While many women may receive approval from their peers for their accomplishments, that can be misleading since others can only see outward actions and don’t know the motives of their heart. A woman may be admired for her attractive features, but they are not of lasting value. Physical beauty and the esteem of others does not help when your child lies ill or your finances are in ruin. But the virtuous woman knows that all she needs – spiritually, physically, emotionally – can be found in Christ. Ultimately, this verse says, she will be honored.
This week, I want to make my relationship with Christ a priority every day by spending time in His Word and in prayer, that I might know Him more and show reverence for Him in each area of my life.
Great post! Thanks!
Amen, great post!!!
Nikki & Mrs. Stam,
Thank you for your kind words! Hope you have a great Monday!
I want those things too 😉 Thanks for sharing them with us.
And thank you for coming by my blog and commenting. I appreciate it. Stop by again anytime.
Blessings!
Great post! We just had a sermon on that just yesterday about wanting acclaim for ourselves rather than for God. How easy it is to fall into that trap!
Amen, Tracey! Just today I had to remind myself I was foolish to think I could start my day before spending time with Him, let alone be a wife, mother and the other roles He's blessed me with.
Thank you,
Erin
Being a godly woman takes work, but I believe it is well worth it, and it will manifest in many different ways through our lives. Very thought-provoking post, Tracey, and excellent reminder to keep in the Word. Thank you.
Sherry,
Yes, it is definitely easy to fall into that trap. In reading R.A. Torrey's book on prayer, I was reminded that in all we do, we are to seek God's glory, not our own.
Grace,
I know how easy it is, in the rush of my morning, to think that I can put off spending time with God. I quickly realize what a foolish decision that was!
Clara,
I think you are exactly right – it takes effort on our part to become a Godly woman and, Lord willing, that spiritual growth is reflected in many ways to those around us.
