In case I need a personal challenge on Mondays, I can always count on the Proverbs 31 woman to issue one!
This week, our study brings us to verse twenty-five: “Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.”
The Virtuous Woman is a Wise Investor.
We have previously discussed the actual clothing that the virtuous woman wears, yet in this verse we find that she is clothed with more than physical garments.
The word strength could certainly include the realm of the physical; we know that she is a hard worker who accomplishes much each day. Emotional strength, surely aided by her desire to serve her family as well as those less fortunate, keeps her on an even keel. Descriptions of her character would confirm her spiritual strength as well.
Honour speaks to me of her reputation. Others see her for the Godly woman that she is and respect her for it.
The last section of this verse intrigues me. Why does she rejoice in the future? I believe it is because she invests her time in things that will pay dividends in the long run – not only later in this life, but in eternity as well.
Making my spiritual life a priority, to include time for prayer, Bible study and ministry opportunities, is a way to “lay up….treasures in heaven.” [Matthew 6:20]
Spending time on relationships is not always expedient; it may seem much more necessary to be cleaning the house or paying the bills than to be connecting with my children. However, the things that I put the most time and effort into today need to be those that will prove beneficial for the future.
I think you are right that her investment is not only in the here and now but also preparing for eternal life 🙂
I enjoyed your thoughts on this verse. I do think the last part of the verse indicates that she faces the future with confidence – she has done everything she can, and she is confident that her work and her ways will reap good results.
I hope and pray that I can instill in my children the Christian heritage that I had.
Thank you for these thoughts, Tracey! I agree that investing time in connecting with our children is so very very important!! They are my primary mission field! Blessings to you and yay for Christmas break with your girls!!!
