Today we find that not only does the Proverbs 31 woman meet the needs of her household, but she also maintains her own well-being.
Verse 17 says, “She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms.”
The Virtuous Woman is Healthy.
This lady takes care of her physical body. In order to properly meet the demands of running her household, she needs to be fit. Surely the tasks that she does as a homemaker – for example, the physical activity of planting a vineyard, mentioned in verse 16 – help keep her in good condition. Eating a nutritious diet in order to maximize her health would be a key component as well.
As we do all that we can to properly care for our families, we also need to take care of our own bodies by getting enough sleep, eating well and exercising. This is an area in which I can definitely improve!
I’m continuing to make small changes to our eating habits, slowly moving us toward more healthful choices. My latest experiment is finding a replacement for white sugar. In seeking more natural sweeteners, I’m currently trying turbinado sugar and plan to try sucanat as well. I would also like to incorporate honey into more of my recipes that call for sugar.
When it comes to exercise, I strive to find a balance between actual exercise and normal physical activities. On days when I have scrubbed the shower, vacuumed the house and spent an hour ironing, I know that I have burned a good number of calories. However, if I have been sitting for much of the day, I try to make sure I take a walk, go for a family bike ride or have a jump roping contest with my daughters at some point in the evening!
What healthy habits have you adopted to help you stay strong for your family?
