Attitude is Everything

March 29, 2010 by Tracey 10 Comments

One of my dad’s constant admonitions as I was growing up was “Attitude is everything.”

As my girls return to school tomorrow morning after a week of spring break, I remember his advice and ask myself these questions.

Will I grumble because the alarm clock sounds at the early hour of 5:30 A.M, or will I be thankful that I have the health and strength to get out of bed?

Can I appreciate the fact that we have plenty of healthy food to fill lunchboxes or rush through packing lunches and never give it a thought?

Do I thank God once again that he chose to bless our family with children or rush them out the door so that I can have some quiet time?

Does the “umpteenth” load of laundry help me appreciate taking care of my family or cause me to resent my household chores?

Today I’m asking God to give me a proper perspective on the blessings I’ve been given along with the challenges I may face. As my attitude is right, I can encourage others and make my home sing.

How do you alter your attitude when it’s not what it should be?

Visit Mom’s the Word to read how others are choosing to make their homes sing today.

Beautiful post, Tracey! I pray, and sometimes I have to force a smile on my face and into my voice. But, as you said, it is a choice. We can choose to be happy and to remember that there are lots of people that would be thrilled to have our circumstances!

Thanks, I needed this one tonight. It was a trying week last week. Madison not only tested my nerves, patience and rules at home, but at school too. Thank goodness this will be a short week and then roll into Spring Break next week! I get her all to myself too 🙂

What a great post! Thanks for bringing this to my attention. Too many times I grumble and complain when I should be thankful for all that I have. Thanks!

Great post! I have been told by family members in the past that attitude is something big I need to work on. Thanks for the reminder that attitude takes a big part of how we view life! 🙂

I love how you led us to turn our complaints into blessings. We do have much to be thankful for! Today I was whining, in my heart, about all the ironing I had to do. My husband is a businessman, and I have about two hours a week of ironing. Just as I was fussing, my husband sent me an IM just telling me how much he loved me. The Lord will turn every thought to praise, using different circumstances to convict our hearts.

What is that old saying? "Good GOD it is morning!" or "Good God, it is MORNING" It is all in your attitude! Thanks for the reminder.

Thanks for the reminder to thank God for all we have. I find that being thankful for what we do have as opposed to thinking about all the bad things that happen or the situation we are in helps me keep a positive attitude and a thankful heart.

Tracey, what a great post to make us think. I know that at times I just grumble but I need to look at how blessed I really am. Thanks for reminding me that God loves me and has given me so much to be thankful for.
