Book Review: Mothering Heights

November 9, 2009 by Tracey 2 Comments

As someone who reads every good parenting book she can get her hands on and also enjoys classical literature, this book was a perfect one for me to review.

Mothering Heights: A Novel Approach for Christian Mothers by Keitha Smith and Susan Brereton gives the reader a wonderfully Biblical perspective on the role of motherhood. Each chapter contains several quotes from a well-known novel, such as Pride and Prejudice, and relates them to an area of parenting. At the end of each chapter are thought-provoking questions that relate to the theme that was discussed.

A number of Bible verses are interwoven throughout the book, bringing a Scriptural foundation to the subject matter. In a post last week, I shared one of my favorite quotes from the book which regards committing our children’s future to God. Many of the things that I read reminded me that I can only be the mother that I need to be with God’s help.

My favorite chapter was the eighth one, which gives extremely practical tips for incorporating the principles that have been presented into your daily life. I would definitely recommend this book for any woman who seeks to be a Godly mother.

If you would like to read this book yourself, you can purchase it through Amazon for $15.

This is a Mama Buzz review. The book for this review was provided to me free of charge by Judson Press. The opinions expressed in this post are my own and I was not compensated for them in any other way.

I too have read many books on mothering. I wanted to be the best mother and wore myself out for a long time trying to be the best. But it takes God working in our hearts to make us good mothers. We will all make mistakes, but if our hearts are turned to our children, they will be easily forgiven.

Amen to that! After winning the "Grumpy Mom of the Morning" award for the umpteenth million time this morning, I definitely need to hear that!
