I’ve mentioned that I want to focus on trusting God in 2014. Well, I made it to January 3rd before I found a couple of things to worry about! However, I was thankful that the Lord brought to mind my desire to trust Him in each situation.
Studying Bible verses about trust is proving to be a true blessing. In the past, I’ve learned many lessons from Ruth, and found a new one to love last week.
In Ruth 2:12, Boaz says to Ruth, “…and a full reward be given thee of the Lord God of Israel, under whose wings thou art come to trust.”
As I researched the meaning of the Hebrew word for trust in this verse, my Scofield Bible notes mentioned that this form of the word means “to take refuge.”
That’s one of the things I seek this year – to find my refuge in God. Think of Ruth and all that she had already been through in her life. Widowed at a young age, she left her home country, lived with her mother-in-law – probably in near poverty, and ventured out into an unknown culture in an attempt to provide for herself and Naomi. In all of this, Ruth learned to take refuge – find her comfort, protection, and peace – in God.
What an inspiration this is to me! May I follow in her noble footsteps and, through the events of 2014, I can learn to find my refuge in God.
