Giving feels good.
That shouldn’t surprise me when I recall Paul and his admonition to the church to “…remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how He said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.” [Acts 20:35]
Recently the Lord burdened our hearts to give financially to a missionary family who had been through some difficult struggles. I believe that He was able to use it as a blessing in their lives; yet I was blessed through being able to share with them a portion of what God had given to us.
Giving isn’t always financial. At times, that is the easy way out. It may be more challenging – and what God is calling us to do – to give the gift of time, to prepare a meal for another family, to take an elderly neighbor out to run their errands, or to open our home to a visiting missionary who needs a place to stay.
In my life, the blessing seems to come because giving takes my focus off of myself and puts it on others. I think that the more we give, the more we see how it truly blesses us.
My aim is to be thankful when I have an opportunity to give. I ask that I would be sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit and, when He touches my heart, that I would be willing to do whatever He asks.
How have you been blessed when you’ve given to others?
