My parents’ favorite spot to vacation is Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. We made several trips there while I was growing up and, in the years since, my husband and I have made a couple of visits of our own. The serenity of the countryside and the simple life lived by the Amish inhabitants is peaceful and intriguing.
Lorilee Craker wrote Money Secrets of the Amish: Finding True Abundance in Simplicity, Sharing and Saving after spending time in an Amish community studying their frugal lifestyle. She covers topics such as reducing debt, buying in bulk, shopping secondhand, and, one of my favorite chapters, Amish Foodies. The final chapter brings readers full circle, with a reminder that the best things in life are free and an admonition to value people and time spent with those we love above all else.
Since our current lifestyle is relatively thrifty, many of the tips in this book were ones I already practice. However, it was still an enjoyable read due to the glimpses of Amish life along with the few new tips I learned along the way.
I have an extra copy of this book to give away to one of my blog readers. To enter to win, please leave a comment on this post sharing your best resource for money-saving tips or ideas.
