Today as I finish (for now anyway!) this series on praying for our children, I wanted to share what my girls and I pray for together each morning before they leave for school. It is the last thing we do before leaving the house – except for giving Daddy a hug goodbye!
I pray that God will keep each of us safe throughout the day; I request wisdom and strength for each of their teachers; we ask God to help each of the girls make good decisions and wise choices; then I close by praying for any specific challenge one of them may be facing that day.
I really appreciated some of the comments you made on earlier posts about praying for our children.
MoziEsme shared a great thought on how she prays for her child. “I pray that she will see God’s reflection in me and that He’ll enable her to look past my shortcomings and have the mother she needs.”
Momstheword shared these thoughts. “Although my kids were home schooled (the youngest still is), I still had to let them out of my sight, so to speak.
I remember when my oldest started college, I was once again down on my knees in prayer.
I, too, pray for their protection, as you do. I also pray for wise choices and decisions. For courage to say no when necessary, and for purity in their lives and thoughts.
I also pray for their self-esteem, and how they view themselves. My prayer has always been that they would see themselves as God sees them, and that His love would take hold in their hearts, and that it would go from their head down into their hearts.”
Joyfull recommended the books on prayer by Stormie O’Martian, which I have also enjoyed.
As we seek to be the best mothers we can be for our children, may we continue to be faithful in holding them up before God in prayer.
