My plans for this past weekend went as follows:
Friday: My husband and I would pick up the girls from school and head to the beach for a couple of hours, then stop for supper at our favorite hamburger place on the way home.
Saturday: Spend a quiet morning at home, then take our 6-year-old to a birthday party for one of her classmates at Chuck E.Cheese; make a quick stop with our 8-year-old to buy a pair of school shoes.
Saturday: After a night of not sleeping well, our 6-year-old got up with a sore throat and fever over 101 degrees. I spent all morning in the kitchen baking; then, while putting some ingredients back, knocked off of the pantry shelf a glass bottle of French’s Worcestershire sauce that was 3/4 full. Glass shattered and sauce splashed everywhere. A thorough cleaning of the pantry ensued.Obviously God had other plans than those that I had pre-arranged! However, it actually turned out to be an okay weekend. While we didn’t get to the beach on Friday, my husband offered to take us out for supper that night (a sure panacea for my disappointment!) and, at the girls’ request, we stopped by Barnes & Noble to spend some time looking at books. On Saturday, the fruits of my labor produced a large batch of Oatmeal Cookies, Apple Butter Harvest Bars and To Die For Blueberry Muffins. Some of these treats have already been eaten and some are going into the freezer for future snacks.
