I began using this particular tip several years ago in our previous house. I was looking for a way to keep my husband’s keys, wallet and any other small item he needed every day in plain sight, yet stored attractively.
In that house we came in and out of the front door a good bit. I got a small basket and placed it on the hallway table near the entry so that whenever he came into the house, he could easily drop the things from his pocket into the basket. In the morning, there was no searching for a misplaced wallet or cell phone because they were right where he had left them the night before.
In our current house we mostly enter and exit through the garage. One of the first flat surfaces you see, apart from the washer and dryer when you come through the laundry area, is the dresser in our master bedroom. I put the same basket right on the back corner of the dresser so that he can stop in and deposit his items before coming into the kitchen and living area. This simple idea has worked well for us and prevented lots of last-minute rummaging before getting out the door in the morning.
