Some weeks ago I posted about trying my hand at growing cherry tomatoes in a container on our back patio. I don’t have a particularly green thumb, but things looked promising to start. Here’s how the plant looked after just a few weeks.
Then came some blustery winds and lots of rain. A couple of the branches broke off, somewhat damaging the main part of the plant. We (I use that term collectively, but mainly mean my husband!) already had it staked, but we added a cage to the container since the plant was getting so large. We weren’t sure the plant was going to make it (and still aren’t) but we did pick our first tomato yesterday! The girls and I were so excited about splitting that tiny tomato into three pieces that I forgot to take a picture. Here’s how the plant’s looking this morning – still a good number of yellow leaves, but lots of little green tomatoes and another red one that’s almost ready to pick.
I’m hopeful that our tomato plant will continue to produce. Walking out the back door and picking tasty fresh tomatoes works for me!!This post is linked to Works for Me Wednesday.
