I know I had heard or read several times before that you could cut brownies in the pan very easily and neatly using a plastic knife. Since I like my brownies pretty fudgy, I have struggled for years (literally) with trying to cut them neatly using different knives. I just never have plastic knives around the house and couldn’t see how using plastic instead of metal would work any better.
Well, last week I made brownies. I could tell when they came out of the oven that they were going to be nice and gooey. Since I was taking some of them to another family as part of a meal for them, I did want the brownies to look nice. I remembered that I had a packet of unused plastic ware in the glove compartment of the car, leftover from some takeout meal. Not really thinking this “tip” would work, I went to the car, brought in the plastic knife and set to work.
When I think of all the mangled brownies we have eaten over the years, it’s quite sad! The knife cut through the brownies perfectly! I couldn’t believe how pretty they looked! I washed the plastic knife and put it in my silverware drawer so it will always be handy (although I’d better get a backup just in case the first one goes missing!) To never again have to eat or serve unattractive brownies works for me!
